N.Y.P.D. dances with poles
The New York City Police Department, after months of rumors that it would be moving into its new dance studio on Broadway in Midtown Manhattan, finally confirmed on Monday that it is set to open a new studio on that street, but it hasn’t said when.
In an interview with The Associated Press, the NYPD said it would begin construction in October on the new location, which it said would include a studio for performing and teaching people to pole dance, which the department describes as “a form of public entertainment that encourages the public to participate in community events.”
The department, which was founded in 2010, says it plans to use the space for training, performing and other educational purposes, and that it will employ at least 40 employees to operate it.
The city has not said when it plans on opening the space, but the new studio could be one of the largest new studios in the city.
