When the NBA finally returns to the ice: Live updates from the Winter Olympics

The Stanley Cup Playoffs are upon us.

As we all know, the final day of the regular season begins tonight with the Chicago Blackhawks facing off against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

There is some drama going on, as the Penguins were eliminated from playoff contention a week ago.

The Blackhawks were in the playoffs last season, but the Blackhawks lost to the Detroit Red Wings in the second round.

Now, the Blackhawks will have to face the Detroit REDWINGS, who have won six straight games.

Here are the best sports news stories of the day:    The NHL will be back in the Winter Games, and there are some familiar faces. 

The Stanley Cup Final will be played on Sunday night in St. Louis, and the Blackhawks have already announced their official roster.

There is also a lot of excitement around the Detroit red hot defense corps. 

The Blackhawks defense is not known for their shutdown play, but they have a number of players who are capable of playing that role. 

Bryan Bickell (D), Brandon Bollig, Brandon Montour, and David Warsofsky are all capable of being shutdown defenders, and they will have some key players who can be shutdown defenders. 

Detroit Red Wings: Travis Hamonic, Henrik Zetterberg, Gustav Nyquist, Niklas Kronwall, Pavel Datsyuk, and Johan Franzen have been on the ice for more than 20 goals this season. 

Andreas Athanasiou has been on for more goals this year than any other Red Wings player. 

There are a few interesting pieces who have not been on ice this season: Kris Russell is not on the team. 

Jonathan Ericsson and Tomas Jurco are on the roster. 

Trevors Daley, Nikita Zadorov, and Brendan Smith are not on that roster.

 Bryan Baertschi is on the squad. 

Tyler Bertuzzi, Riley Sheahan, and Jiri Hudler are not currently on the lineup. 

Niklas Kronstrom, Nikolas Lidstrom, and Tomas Tatar are not with the team either. 

Zach Parise is on a one-year deal with the Hawks. 

Mike Richards is on an AHL contract. 

Joel Quenneville is on another AHL contract with the Red Wings. 

Matt Beleskey is not with Atlanta. 

Brandon Dubinsky is on his third NHL season with the Blackhawks. 

Antoine Vermette is not signed to a long-term deal. 

Patrick Sharp and Pavel Dattilo are not playing. 

Johan Franzen is not playing with the Ducks. 

Lance Bouma is on waivers. 

Nick Foligno is on injured reserve. 

Seth Jones is not currently playing.

 Seth Helgeson is on IR. 

Brendan Smith is not in the lineup with the Canucks. 

Dennis Seidenberg is on season-ending IR.

The Hawks also announced that Tyler Myers has been placed on waivers by the Nashville Predators.

Ryan O’Reilly is not yet on the Blackhawks roster.

There will be a couple of players on waivers that were on the Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins squad.

Dylan Olsen and Brian Campbell were on Boston’s roster last season and they are on waivers now. 

Kieran MacIntyre is on Boston. 

Cameron Gaunce is on Chicago. 

Michael McLeod and Kyle Wood are not yet playing with Pittsburgh. 

Luke Kunin is not participating with Boston.
